SOLVING environmental problems should not be the sole responsibility of government, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) regional office in Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) said as it urged everyone to take action.

“We should not just rely all our concerns for the environment in the government, rather, we should all do something to protect our environment,” DENR-CAR information officer 2 and Youth Desk officer Giovani Joy Fontanilla said.

Fontanilla emphasized that everybody benefits from the environment, so everyone must have the responsibility to take care of it during the launching of “Tayo ang Kalikasan” Photo Exhibit as part of the celebration of Environment Month this June.

The photo exhibit showcases the concerns and purpose of DENR-CAR in aiming for clean air and water, proper solid waste management, geo-hazard groundwater assessment and responsible mining, forest and watershed management, forest protection, biodiversity conservation and protected area and ecotourism, coastal and marine ecosystem management, land administration and management and disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation and mitigation.

“Hopefully through these photos, everyone will see that we have a beautiful nature, but its beauty will be put into waste if we don’t protect our nature,” she stated.

The photos were taken from the entries of youth from Cordillera who joined their recently concluded photo contest during the Earth Day. Aside from those, photos of the activities of DENR-CAR and Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) are also seen in the exhibit.

“By showcasing what we do in the DENR-CAR, hopefully the public will have an idea on what they can do to help the environment,” she added.

The photo exhibit runs from June 18 to July 21 at the SM Lower Basement. (Czarina Berlynn Donne Agustin, MMSU Intern)
