More evacuees from Gingoog arrive

ANOTHER 15 families from Gingoog City in Misamis Oriental have joined the displaced residents of Sitio Camansi, Lagonglong in encamping at the provincial capitol park over the weekend.

The 62 individuals fled their homes in Sitio Anahaw, Barangay Bantaawan, Gingoog City after a platoon of government soldiers under the 58th Infantry Battalion have stayed in their community for over a week now.

Sitio leader Diego Tandayon said the military arrived last June 14 and verbally harassed the residents.

He said the harassment had forced them to leave and join the bakwit at the capitol park since they shared similar demand.

"Gusto mo ihunong ilang operation ug ibalik ang peace talks," he said.

Provincial disaster officer Fernando Dy Jr. said they would look into the concern of the additional evacuees who will also be receiving the same treatment as the Lagonglong evacuees.

Dy also said they will arrange another round of dialogue between the bakwit, military and the capitol officials.

Governor Yevgeny Emano said he would face the evacuees should there’ll be no conflicts of his schedules.

"I will face them. I've been doing that sukad kaniadto nga gabakwit sila we will schedule it," Emano said.

The evacuees have already been complaining about the governor not facing them since their encampment as they want the capitol's top official to meddle and stand with them.

Displaced residents were asking the governor to help them pull out the military in their community.

Emano, however, said he does not hold the power to pull out the government troops in their community.
