A 70-YEAR-OLD Japanese philanthropist came to the cities of Silay and Bacolod yesterday, June 25, to extend his charity and goodwill to about 240 children in the community.

Yaginuma Tadashi, a businessman from Fukushima Ken, Koriyama City extended food assistance and school supplies to the kids of Hiyang-Hiyang, Tayap and Patag in Silay City on Saturday, June 23.

"I am very happy to see these children smile with my little gifts for them. I can see different smiles on their faces that made me happy too," he said.

Tadashi is also set to extend assistance to the special kids at the Silay City Special Education (Sped) Center today, June 26, as he also has a heart for kids who have special needs and attention.

"I will give a set of hygiene kits and snacks for the special kids," he said.

Tadashi recalled that when he was a kid, somebody gave him candies and it was an experience that gave him a great feeling on how to receive from others. This is the reason why I also helped those who are helpless.

It is really better to give than to receive. He has been engaging in charity works for 15 years now. Every time he travels, he sees to it that he could help a community of kids.

During a tsunami in Japan where their house was closely situated, they also extended help to the children whose parents died in the calamity.

"I hope that I am able to inspire these kids to also learn from giving and one can only know it from the act of giving," he said.
