Ceneco's referendum deferred

ROY Cordova, president of Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco), said that the 20,000 member-consumer-owners of the electric cooperative deferred yesterday the referendum that is supposed to decide its status.

"We divided the house during the 42nd Annual General Membership Assembly (Agma) and the majority decided to defer the referendum,” Cordova said.

The referendum was supposed to determine whether the MCOs would like Ceneco to retain its status under the National Electrification Administration (NEA), convert into a full-fledged cooperative under the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) or register with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

"It's a status quo. We will have to wait until the next Agma for our MCOs to decide", Cordova said.

The general assembly yesterday was attended by 19,927 consumer-members – Bacolod City, 7,237; Murcia and Salvador Benedicto - 3,840; Talisay City -3,334; Silay - 2,845; Bago City - 2,674.

Cordova said that it was the biggest attendance so far in the history of Ceneco's Agma. Last year's attendance was only 3,200.

The huge crowd, he said, is due to the empowerment and organizing of the MCOs as partners of the programs of the Ceneco.

"Our mission is to energize the barangays in our coverage areas. Although 100 percent are already energized we want to reach out and give lights in every household, puroks, haciendas and other remote areas this year,” Cordova said.

Meanwhile, the Ceneco Board is set to elect its new set of officers on July 10.

The Ceneco directors are Cordova (District IV-Bacolod East), Joyce Martha Cuenca (District 1-Bacolod North), Arnel Lapore (District II-Bacolod South), Jojit Yap (District III-Bacolod Central), Robert Javellana (District VI-Bago City), Dwight Carbon (District VII-Murcia and Salvador Benedicto, Noel Alarcon (District VIII-Talisay City Joselito Gaston (District IX-Silay City and Beda Tombos-(District II- Bacolod South).
