RYAN Ponteras and Rowel Rosia went toe-to-toe in 12 rounds but it was not enough for any of the boxers to get the judges nudge.

Ponteras and former WBC International flyweight champion Rosia settled for a draw, 112-117, 116-112, 114-114, in their 12-round encounter as the WBA Asia South flyweight champion remain vacant during the main event of the “Great Fights at the Heights” on June 30 at the Slaughter Compound.

Ponteras, the former Philippine flyweight champion, was the aggressor in the early rounds but Rosia earned his points with his perfectly time counter punching against the Braveheart Boxing Stable of North Cotabato pugilist.

Jomar Fajardo stole the limelight for the evening after stopping former International Boxing Organization world superflyweight champion Edrin Dapudong via a split draw.

Dapudong, who last saw action in 2016 with a split decision win against Renren Tesorio, absorbed his seventh defeat that goes with his 33 wins and one draw in the hands of Fajardo of the Highland Boxing Gym of La Trinidad, Benguet.

One judge saw the eight-round bout in favor of the former world champion, 79–73, but two others scored the fight with Fajardo winning on an identical 78-74 card.

In the supporting bout, Elorde’s Cris Pualino improved his record to 18–3 after scoring a unanimous decision win against Junjie Lauza of Fight Factory who dropped to 6-22-2.

Jason Buenaobra of the Penalosa Boxing Stable meanwhile was impressive in his unanimous win against Gerry Pabila as Jayson Vayson pulled off an upset against Jonathan Almacen in the event hatched by Raffy Panagan Sports Promotion in coordination with sports/businessman Vic Calderon and supported by Black Mamba, Jomarcann General Construction, and Baguio’ Finest Security Agency.

Baguio City Mayor Mauricio Domogan lauded the organizers for bringing back boxing events in the city after long years of hiatus.

“Sporting events such as boxing in the city is a welcome respite because our youth are inspired to take the sport and hopefully, Baguio will also produce a world champion,” said Domogan who was with Department of Agriculture Secretary Manny Pinol and Games and Amusement Board chairman Kahlil Baham Mitra at the sidelines watching the event.
