THE Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) will hold the 2nd City Wide Shake Out Drill on July 27.
Lyndon Leovic Ancajas, the administrative officer and training director of Davao City DRRMO and Central 911, said on Monday, July 2, that they will hold it again in line with the National Disaster Resilience Month. It aims to elevate the public’s awareness on how to respond in the wake of any emergency situation caused by natural calamities.
Ancajas said that it will be a city-wide full scale earthquake and tsunami exercise, which will be participated by the barangays, schools, establishments and government offices in Davao City.
“The goal of the full scale exercise is to develop disaster resilience to the different communities in Davao City. This is also to practice what we should all do in the event of a strong earthquake and tsunami,” he said.
He added that aside from the communities, the city government of Davao will also initiate its earthquake and tsunami response plan and the continuation of operations plan which will involve the disaster response agencies including the Central 911, CDRRMO and among others.
“This will require all disaster response agencies, both private and government, to mobilize and set-up an alternate site of emergency operations in a safe place to continue providing emergency response services to the affected population,” he said.
Ancajas said that the scenarios will be the same like last year but this time, they added the setting up of the Joint Field Hospital to cater to the needs of the injured disaster survivors.
Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio pushed for the conduct of the city-wide drill after five or six active faults were recently discovered in the city based on the report relayed to them by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology. The areas with active fault lines include Tamugan, Dacudao, Lacson and New Carmen.
