A FEW moons ago, we were treated to exquisite music of Gershwin by no less than world acclaimed Cristine Coyiuto. Assisted by the Metro Manila Concert Orchestra with Josefino “Chino” Toledo as conductor, Cristine’s repertoire was modern classical and yet familiar and most entertaining. We were blest to have the luxury of this opportunity.
Cristine says of Gershwin: “Gershwin always believes in creating music that was distinctively American. He commented that true music must reflect the thoughts and aspirations of the people and the time. My people are Americans. My time is today."
With that we were mesmerized the whole evening with Cristine Coyiuto's skilled and delightful interpretation of Gershwin’s music. Indeed, true music allows us to go down into the deep recesses of our souls and there, we lose ourselves in reflection of our dreams and our desires.
It is a joy watching Cristine doing her art in the piano. Not only her fingers are expressive but her countenance as well as she interprets the music. While I enjoyed her performance immensely, I had to look in the direction of the piano aficionados in the audience to see their reactions. Fr. Bernard, OCD, was practically out of his seat applauding and Ana Benedicto was echoing that applause.
Bacolod should have more of these concerts and we are grateful to Cristine to always include us in her tours. We are grateful likewise to witness the benevolence of the prestigious Coyiuto family of Prudential Guarantee and Assurance who shared their blessings with a generous donation to Balay Pag-asa and Youth Center.
Thank you so much for this opportunity and your kind hearts!
