MORE than 1,000 runners and running enthusiasts, including the director general of Technical Education and Skill Development Authority (Tesda) will join the “Tesda: Dagan Ta, Tabang Ta” tomorrow at the Sumilon Road, Cebu Business Park.
The Tesda chief is in Cebu to grace their events for this month, and one of it is the fun run organized by Cebu Association of Public and Private Tvet (Technical Vocational and Training) Institutions Inc. (Capti).
Capti president Mary Ann Roble said that this is their first time to venture into sports event. The race was conceptualized to help the Tesda scholars fund their food and transportation allowances for the span of their training.
“We have seen students who did not continue their training because of financial reasons,” said Roble.
Villanueva commended the organizers for conceptualizing the event and said he will show his support by joining the 3-kilometer category.
The race will have the men’s and women’s open 3K and 6K categories, and a separate 3K and 6K for foreign runners.
“Our beneficiary are the incoming students and most of them are smart and skilled young individuals, they are less fortunate and definitely deserve the help,” said Roble.
Most of the participants come from the Technical Vocational Institution of Tesda, but they also got some support from the sectors outside of it.
“We are happy with the outcome of our registration because the initial was 1,000 runners but we reached more than that after the registration closed at noon,” she said.
