NGCP turns over computer lab to Misamis Oriental school

THE National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), in simple ceremonies, turned over a computer laboratory to Patag Elementary School Monday, October 23, at Barangay Patag, Opol town, Misamis Oriental.

NGCP give an ICT building with 25 HP laptops, 2 Epson printers, 1 router and air conditioner to the school.

NGCP’s Computer Laboratory Project is in partnership with STI College Cagayan de Oro. STI has committed to provide assistance in terms of computer maintenance.

The turnover was participated by the firm’s Corporate Initiative and Advocacy Division, Eva Elizabeth Malilay, Regional Communications and Public Affairs Officer Mae Roselle Curiano, Deputy School Administrator STI College Cagayan de Oro Mario Malferrari Jr., Public School District Supervisor Dr. Horace Amelia Nacua, Patag, Opol village chairman Hermito Laid, Administrative Office Municipality of Opol Rico Ebal, District 3 MOM NGCP Officers Leo Cabasag, Rainier Alombro, District 3 Head O&M Mindanao Jesselito Abamonga, WMD-NGCP Gerardo Delangin Ladica, District 3 S.O Ron Francis Derilo and Randy Castillo of STI-CDO.

According to Curiano, they choose Patag Elementary School to be the recipient of the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) building because the community hosts NGCP’s Patag sub-station.

"Host community sa amo facility for Patag, host sila sa amo Patag sub-station, so sila man ang host maong nahatagan sila ani, Priority is always given to our host communities , it's also our way of giving back to the community in the facilities, sa mga tabang na nahatag sa amo-a sa support," Curiano said.

"Maintenance would be sa school na after ma turn-over, NGCP will be providing subsidy", Curiano added.

The Computer Laboratory Project of NGCP has already reached 30 schools nationwide, six of which are in Mindanao which includes Ma. Cristina National High School at Brgy. Sawaii, Ma. Cristina Iligan City, Malinao Elementary School at Brgy. Malinao, Kadingilan, Bukidnoon, Cabligan Elementary School at Brgy. Cabligan Matanao, Davao del Sur, Cateel Central Elementary School at Brgy. Poblacion Cateel, Davao Oriental, San Roque Elementary School at Brgy. San Roque, Lingig, Surigao del Sur and Patag Elementary School at Brgy. Patag, Opol Misamis Oriental.

School Principal Theressa Montecillo, the computers will be helpful not just for the students but for the teachers as well.

"Ayna grabe jud ka helpful not oly that ma hands-on na jud sila sa paggamit sili lang tong picture nga this is laptop, but hands on jud makita jud nila, magamit jud nila. Not only that ang mga teachers pod mahimo nang computer literate pod MAS pa, ma enhance jud," Montecillo said.

"Kami happy gyud kay mi ani, in all Misamis Oriental only Patag Elementary School recepient ani nga ICT building with complete facilities, that's why nagpasalamt jud kay ming dako just imagine 25 jud, not only that printer pa, air condition room, building, pasalamat jud kay ming dako not only this one, covered court also ilaha japon," Montecillo added.

Students of Patag Elementary School likewise expressed their happiness for having a new ICT building. A student said with the new facility, they no longer would have to spend for computer services. She said students had to set aside money for fare going to the poblacion where the computer and internet shops are.

"Lipay kay mi kay naa nang mga computer kay para makatoon pod mi sa among mga lisod nga mga lessons. Makatabang sa amo kay makaresearch na mi sa Google sa among mga lisod na lesson, di na mi muadto sa Opol para lang mag internet, di na mi muadto sa mga internetan para mag net og magpaprint. Di na mi mag layo layo, di na mi magkalas kalas og plite padulong Opol diri lang mag computer. Thank you NGCP," Mary Antonette Cabatingan, a Grade 6 student of Patag Elementary School, said.
