'Crazy Rich Asians' in theaters on August 17

WARNER Bros has announced that "Crazy Rich Asians" will be released in theaters on August 17, 2018.

Based on Kevin Kwan's 2013 international bestselling novel with the same title, the movie tells the story of the hush-hush world of the mega-rich families in Asia.

It follows a Chinese-American Stanford-educated economic professor who falls in love with one of Singapore's most eligible bachelors, who also happens to be the heir to his families' massive fortune.

The movie boasts an all-Asian cast with Constance Wu playing the lead female character and Henry Golding as her leading man.

Philippines' Queen of All Media Kris Aquino is also part of the movie.

Aquino was in Singapore last June to shoot her role in the Hollywood project and got to meet Wu in person.

She also welcomed Kwan in Manila back in August where the latter confirmed that the television host is indeed part of the movie.

Kwan said he personally chose Aquino to be part of the flick as she's "perfect for the role".

"I want Filipinos in this movie. We have two actually, Nico Santos, the comedian is also in the movie. I just have a soft spot for her (Aquino)," the author said.

Aside from Wu, Golding and Aquino, other big names who are part of the film are Gemma Chan, Sonoya Mizuno, and Michelle Yeoh. (SunStar Philippines)
