Thank you, Sir Seth

SUNSTAR Davao’s Seth Delos Reyes has finally used his final shutter last October 30 after 20 years of his exemplary service to the organization.

Sir Seth, a multi-awarded photojournalist, was given a surprise sendoff party by the staff at the SunStar Davao Office.

Back then Sir Seth won the Photojournalist of the Year award at the Globe Media Excellence Award last 2014.

Hugs and tears were present during the farewell party for SunStar Davao’s Sniper.

I first met Sir Seth, July of 2016 as he demonstrated to me how things run at the office for photojournalists. He then taught me how to use a Nikon camera because before I was using a Canon SLR.

Numerous times we’ve met in the field during rallies, press conferences, festivals and sporting events. Sir Seth was always there to guide me during my first few months holding the camera of Sun Star.

Up until I reached one year in the office, Sir Seth is still giving me tips and hacks from under his sleeve from his 20 years of capturing moments in and out of Davao City. Coming from a totally opposite field of videography, his advices and reminders were instilled in my mind as I go out every day capturing moments.

What I admired about Sir Seth is his calmness despite beating deadlines at the office, and his sniper-like eyes in capturing Pastilan pictures.

During his last day at the office, Sir Seth was given gifts and remembrance from SunStar Davao’s general manager Tessie Paña, Sun.Star SuperBalita editor-in-chief Alger Dura, and newsroom supervisor Donna Cuyos.

It is not the end of Sir Seth’s media stint as he will continue to serve the masses as he will become the newest columnist of Sun.Star Superbalita.

Despite being saddened by his retirement, because for more than a year we were seated beside each other and every time I am confused about deep Cebuano words, he was always there to light the bulb.

I am truly grateful that I was mentored by the one and only Seth Delos Reyes. He may have ran out of shutters but his pen's ink will continue to mark in the years to come. Thank you and happy retirement, Sir Seth Delos Reyes.
