UNIVERSITY of St. La Salle (USLS) Lady woodpushers tallied 18 points to capture the women’s division of the just-concluded Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports, Cultural and Educational Association tertiary chess competition at STI West Negros University Library in Bacolod City.
The winning team composed of Herrera Kristel Shayne, Mailyn Cabungcag, Erl Ulette Martinez and Karen Joy Anoran were too good for University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos (UNO-R) which settled for silver followed by STI West Negros University (WNU) and Riverside College.
On Thursday, UNO-R led the men’s division with 18.5 points after Round 5 followed by USLS with 15.5 points, Visayan Maritime Academy-Global College (15 points) and STI WNU (13 points).
Bacolod Tay Tung High School is still leading the elementary boys’ and girls’ divisions with 17.5 points and 16.5 points, respectively, at the end of Round 5.
St. Scholastica’s Academy-Bacolod and STI WNU are trailing at second and third places of the boys’ division with 12.5 points each while Eliakim Learning Center and STI WNU are close behind with 13 and 11.5 points each.
In the secondary level, STI WNU is on the lead for both divisions with Tay Tung just an inch behind at second place.
This tournament is qualifying event for next month’s 2017 Palarong Panlalawigan and Prisaa meet. (HGD)
