THE King's Sword Martial Arts of Davao harvested a total of 11 gold medals, seven silvers and 10 bronzes to dominate the 2nd Mindanao Open Wushu Sanda Championships that closed at the NCCC Mall Activity Area recently.
King's Sword president Nell Jone Astudillo, who is also the event organizer, said Neil Ivan Udarbe, Geoff Bustamante, Kent Alcala, Jahaziel Care Barbero, Albert Malatican, Angelica Datulayta, Roni Mariell Santiago, Louise Jerom Cadag, Robinson Tabilon, Charis Delle Cunanan and Sharmain Florece who copped one gold medal each in their respective categories.
Udarbe lorded over his rivals in the cadet boys 38 kilograms division (11-12 years old) while Bustamante ruled the cadet boys 42 kg (11-12 years old) and Alcala topped the 45 kg (13-15years old).
The newly-crowned national Muai Thai Championships titlist Barbero lived up to her billing in the cadet girls 45kg (13-15 years old) while Malatican governed the junior’s boys 48kg (16-17 years old).
Datulayta, for her part, won the gold in juniors female 48kg (16-17 years old) while multi-athlete Santiago emerged champion in juniors female 52kg (16-17 years old).
Cadag, meanwhile, bested his rivals in seniors male 70kg (18 years old and above) while Tabilon clinched the seniors male 80kg and up (18 years old and above) title.
Cunanan copped the seniors female 52kg title (18 years old and above) while Florece governed the seniors female 70kg (18 years old and above) in the event that attracted a total of 149 participants from Zamboanga Peninsula, Davao Region, Northern Mindanao, Soccsksargen Region, Caraga Region and Armm Region.
The silvers were courtesy of Carlo Guanzon (cadet boys 52kg 13-15 years old), Sandi Beekhuizen (cadet girls 45kg 13-15 years old), John Emmanuel Morales (junior boys 48kg 16-17 years old), John Cris Bacalso (junior boys 52kg (16-17 years old), Mark John Montes (seniors male 52kg 18 years old and above), Eusebio Tabilon (seniors male 56kg 18 years old and above) and Silver Patricio (seniors male 80kg and up 18 years old and above).
The bronze winners were Michael Dave Virtud (cadet boys 42kg), Jobert Traya (cadet boys 52kg), Ronald John Ferraren (cadet boys 56kg), Euvia Molial (cadet girls 45kg), Vanessa Villanueva (cadet girls 45kg), Krizelle Bernardino (cadet girls 48kg), Mar Juridico (juniors male 48kg), Clyde Roderos (juniors male 60kg), Darem Mark Garao (juniors male 65-70kg) and Sophiya Janhaya Pelletier (juniors female 56kg).
Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) commissioner Celia Kiram, Davao City Councilor April Dayap, Wushu Federation of the Philippines (WFP) Davao Chapter vice president Dexter So, Philippine Federation Wushu Representative Bobby Hongliangyi and NCCC Mall marketing manager Abby Tabile spearheaded the opening ceremony.
The event was presented by NCCC Mall Davao in partnership with Philippine Federation of Wushu, PSC, Philippine Olympic Committee, CMO, SDD-CMO and King's Sword Martial Arts.
