THE National Nutrition Council (NNC) in Northern Mindanao will be conducting the Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony (RNAC) on Friday, November 24, at the Limketkai Luxe Hotel, Limketkai Center, Lapasan, Cagayan de Oro City.
The National Nutrition Council is responsible for the monitoring and evaluation of the country's food and nutrition plans and programs.
Part of NNC's mandate is the annual monitoring of local government units to look into the efficiency of LGUs in planning and administering local nutrition programs.
NNC also serves to assess the performance of the Barangay Nutrition Scholars, Barangay-based volunteers tasked to coordinate the delivery of basic nutrition and related services in their respective areas of assignment.
According to Gladys Mae Fernandez, Nutrition Program Coordinator of the National Nutrition Council Region 10, there is a need to address the health issues especially that the number of children with stunting and malnutrition issues is alarming.
Fernandez, however, said the number of underweight children is decreasing.
