VOLLEYBALL fanatic or not, you ought to devote time this weekend to watch Alyssa and Jia play against Bea and Deana. Thanks to the live UAAP coverage on TV, the country’s most famous female athletes are volleyball players.

Dubbed “STARS AND SPIKES,” it will be three spike-filled days. Tomorrow, the Ateneo Lady Eagles and Creamline Cool Smashers will land in Mactan. First agenda: a volleyball clinic.
Dean Wong, the father of Ateneo star Deana, is the man behind the organizing group, WLD Promotions.
“The Creamline clinic will be done in two sessions at P100/person per session,” said Dean. Those interested may visit Creamline’s Facebook page. The clinic is expected to start at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the USJ-R Basak campus.
The next activity will run from 5 to 7 p.m. Coach Oliver Almadro, the famed mentor of the Ateneo men’s squad, will be here to conduct the talk, “Coach O’s Tips in Season Game Preparation, Motivation and Ethics.” It will be a rare opportunity to listen to one of the nation’s brightest sports minds. Open to all coaches, and the registration fee is P500.
Coach Oliver’s credentials are outstanding: three-time UAAP men’s champion, two-time V-League Men’s Club champion, two-time UAAP Beach Volleyball champion, and he’s the former Men’s 23U and Seniors Phil. On Saturday and Sunday will be the games. To be officiated by the United Volleyball Enthusiast of Cebu (UVEC), the schedule is as follows:
Saturday: Preliminary game between the SWU and USJ-R lady spikers at 3 p.m. Then, the big event: Creamline vs. Ateneo at 4:30 p.m.
Sunday: the preliminary game will be an all-male contest between the varsity teams from SWU and USJ-R at 12 noon. The main bout between Ateneo and Creamline starts at 2 p.m. in USJ-R Basak.
