Sea ambulance bought

CAPITOL will buy two sea ambulances for patients from the islands of Bantayan and Camotes.

Dr. Rene Catan, provincial health officer, said each sea ambulance will cost P3.5 million. One will bring patients from Bantayan Island to Bogo City Provincial Hospital. The other will bring patients from Camotes Island to the Danao City Provincial Hospital.

Catan said the travel between Camotes Island to Danao City is less than one hour compared to the four hours on regular passenger boat.

“They anticipate that the sea ambulances can travel at sea at an average of 24 to 25 knots. This is a speed boat with two big motors,” Catan said.

He said he already allocated a budget to buy equipment that will be installed in the sea ambulances.

“The contractor has asked for an extension of the construction of the sea ambulances, but that will be the last consideration. So, we should expect them to deliver the sea ambulances by early part of next year,” Catan said.

Catan said he want to recommend more sea ambulances to be assigned in other islands and islets of Cebu, such as Kinatarcan in Daanbantayan, Pilar in Camotes Island, whose means of speedy transport is rare.

“Maybe, we can provide speed boat to have them access in bringing their patients to the hospitals,” Catan said. (EOB)
