Beginnings & Beyond

ITS Phoenix Petroleum Corporation's first ever art exhibit and it has decided to highlight local Davao artists, a dozen of them, to take the centerstage and bring images of a prosperous and festive Mindanao.

Curated by artists Victor Secuya, who himself is among the 12 featured artists, the four feet by four feet paintings are carefully selected to showcase Davao's talents, who has a solid body of works to deserve being called artists.

The exhibit opened at SM Lanang Premier last December 8, 2017, Friday, and was graced by no less than its Chairman Domingo T. Uy, President Dennis A. Uy, and Debbie A. Uy-Rodolfo, Assistant Vice President for Customer Service and Corporate Communications.

The exhibit combines the talents of veterans and the young alike.

"Vic Secuya picked the artists based on their bodies of work," said Amanda Echevarria, one of the 12, who assisted in curating. "It was difficult at first because each artist have their own distinct techniques and genre," she said, but towards the end, when the paintings were all done, what emerged was a unified whole.

The 12 artists aside from Echevarria and Secuya are Venerando "Rey" Bollozos, Jose Adolfo "Boboy" Buenaventura, Mriano "Anoy" Catague, Rogelito "Jun" Cayas, Louella "Daday" Joaquin, Alynnah Mcla, Gilbert Miraflor, Welehito "Lito" Pepito, Teody "Bong" Perez, and Mishael "Misha" Pueblas. Each artist has two 4'x4' canvases now exhibited at the Upper Ground Floor of SM Lanang Premier (the entrance hall to the department store) until December 16, 2017, Saturday.

The exhibit is time with Phoenix's 15th founding anniversary and 10th Philippine Stock Exchange listing anniversary.

A full-fledged Davao company, Phoenix is now a force to contend with in trading and marketing of refined petroleum products, operation of oil depots and storage facilities, and hauling and into-plane services.

It has over 500 retail stations all over the country and had always stressed their Filipino identity. Through this first art exhibit, Phoenix sees itself as a partner of local artists to showcase the heritage of Mindanao.

"Beginnings and Beyond" intends to be a venue for the people to experience pride and love for Mindanao heritage through the artistic expressions of the 12.
