THE chief of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Bacolod City Monday urged mall owners to ensure the fire safety of their establishments and their tenants to avoid untoward incidents.
Chief Inspector Publio Ploteña, city fire marshal, issued the reminder after recent incidents of fires that damaged malls in Davao and Cebu cities.
In Davao, 37 call agents were killed after they were trapped inside their workplace situated inside a mall.
Ploteña said that in 2017, they already conducted an advance ocular inspection in various malls to ensure their compliance before renewing their business permits this year.
“All of them complied with the requirements and they should ensure that their fire safety plan last year is maintained and operational,” he said.
He noted that fire inspection certificates were given to the mall owners, and their tenants can now start processing their business permit renewals.
Ploteña encouraged the mall owners to have a maintenance record of the inspection of their facilities and equipment every month.
The BFP is among the agencies providing service at the Business One-Stop-Shop at the Bacolod Government Center from January 1 to 20.
