Traslacion will take A.S. Fortuna Street in Mandaue

THE route for the Traslacion from the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño to the National Shrine of Saint Joseph will include A.S. Fortuna Street in Mandaue City, instead of Barangay Subangdaku, on January 19.

In a press conference, Mildred Simolde of the Mandaue Sto. Niño Association Inc. said the Traslacion will take the “Route 2” and not the usual route.

The Traslacion will start at 7 a.m. from the Basilica and will pass Osmeña Boulevard.

From Osmeña Blvd., it will turn right to D. Jakosalem Street, right turn to General Maxilom Avenue, left turn to Gorordo Avenue, then right turn to Archbishop Reyes Avenue.

It will then go straight to Gov. M. Cuenco Avenue, right turn to A.S. Fortuna in Mandaue, left turn to A. Del Rosario St., right to S.B. Cabahug St. to NSSJ.

“We are not meeting them anymore in Subangdaku. We will meet them in Banilad,” said Simolde.

The Traslacion, or the meeting of the images of the Holy Family that precedes the Sinulog feast, has always taken the Mabolo-Subangdaku route to Mandaue.

The route that passes A.S. Fortuna started in 2016.

It was then decided that the route for the Traslacion will be done alternately.

There will be 300 police personnel that will be deployed during the Traslacion and the send-off of the Santo Niño and Our Lady of Guadalupe going to Lapu-Lapu City for the seaborne procession.

Glenn Antigua, chief for operations of the Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue, said they will immediately open the roads to traffic once the religious icons have passed the A.S. Fortuna so as not to prolong the traffic congestion. (FMG/SunStar Cebu)
