Salango-Trinidad: Lines and emails

I THINK last week has been about waiting in line. Waiting in line to get to parking areas. Waiting in line to get our renewed passports. Waiting in line to get Divya’s phone connections fixed. Waiting in line to pay at the supermarket. The list goes on and on.

I don’t really mind waiting in lines. Seeing the goal removes any uncertainty that I’ll get there. Eventually. Besides, it gives me the chance to sort out my email. Reply to messages, delete photos, write articles. It gives me time to think, and time to reflect, and time to count blessings as well.

There is so much that can be done while waiting in line. Having a device makes it all the more interesting. You can play games, watch videos, catch up on the latest world news, keep in touch with friends, read your mails and messages.

Speaking of emails, a few weeks ago, I couldn't send out emails. I needed to get in touch with our shipper because he sent the wrong commercial invoice for our shipment. I sent him an e-mail asking for the correct one so our packages would be released by customs.

Imagine my panic when I pressed send on the email and it just went to the outgoing box. This happened several times. I realized my emails weren't getting sent. And I had a deadline.

I Googled why my emails weren't getting sent. I found a site that detailed how to get them out. I did all the steps, but they weren't working!

I spent most of the afternoon looking for solutions, worried I may never be able to reply to messages again.

I kept searching and I found out that there were several hundred others from different parts of the world who had the same problem as mine.

One of them couldn't receive and send emails, and he had a medical emergency while on vacation in Switzerland!

Reading about their problems gave me the assurance I wasn’t alone.

I found one site said to reset the passwords on all devices. I tried that, it didn't work. Another said to use the laptop. This worked.

The next morning, everything was back to normal. It appears that the server linked to the outgoing mails is different from the one for receiving emails, and when I changed my passwords after getting locked out of my account several days before, it did not update for both servers.

Big sigh of relief. Mails getting sent again.

And then, the other day, all the notes on both my devices disappeared. As in, ALL. This included passwords, lists, schedules, ideas for future articles.

I felt the familiar panic from last week. Again I turned to google. It said to go to settings on all devices, and check on the notes.

It appears my notes are also tied to my email account. When I changed my password, my notes were affected.

At least I got them back.

I’ve become so dependent on the internet, and so trusting that whatever I store in my devices is safe.

Still, am grateful I learned to back-up my files and make copies.

There is more clutter on my phone because of this, but I’m grateful I have the time to fix this.

When I’m waiting in lines.
