THE architect arrested for owning unlicensed guns and explosives was the one who designed several buildings of the state-run University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP).
Anne lorraine Sitoy, spokesperson of USTP, said architect Rey Galua designed the buildings like the gymnasium, engineering building, Science complex, Information and Communication Technology, and the abandoned student center building.
Sitoy said she cannot elaborate further the details of the multi-million projects being designed by Galua.
Also, she could not trace the employment history of Galua apart from saying that the latter was a former faculty member and eventually became the chairperson of the college of architecture.
Sitoy cannot confirm if Galua has resigned or was terminated.
"I could not tell his employment record kanus-a siya nagsugod og nawala sa USTP but he is the architect of some of the buildings here," Sitoy said.
Galua was arrested by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) on Tuesday for illegal possession of firearms and explosives.
Superintendent Melgar Devaras, commanding officer of CIDG-Cagayan de Oro City, said the filing of charges was pushed through even Galua was admitted to a private hospital after complaining about his heart condition.
Galua's lawyer Art Ubaub, in a radio interview, said some of the recovered items during the search may have been planted.
Ubaub also said the arrest of Galua has nothing to do with the Rotoras case.
"Murag planted. Mao nay among defense," Ubaub said.
Devaras earlier said Galua was named as person of interest in the Rotoras murder case but he refused to give further details.
The Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo) will give updates on the Rotoras probe, today.
