FORMER Secretary of Transportation and Communication Jesus Garcia Jr. lauded the changes that happened in Bacolod City in a few years under the leadership of Mayor Evelio Leonardia.
“Actually, what I saw now is beyond imagination and I can only attribute that to the mayor,” he said.
Garcia, along with former Cebu City mayor Alvin Garcia, and their spouses and other family members paid a courtesy call to Leonardia at the Bacolod Government Center Thursday.
“I told the mayor that it is the vision that he has and the will to do it, that’s leadership,” he added.
The former Cebu City mayor also said they are thankful to the mayor for welcoming and touring them around the Government Center on a short notice.
“Mayor Leonardia has a vision and will,” he said.
Leonardia said the statements of the Garcias were overwhelming and inspiring.
“For me, it is a validation especially so that something like that comes from people who are from the outside looking in,” the mayor said. “I hope that it will be something that will fuel us to greater heights, especially so that we are about to celebrate our 80th year as a city.”
Leonardia added: “We want to instill pride and I believe that what will follow are people who will care for their city. Things like this, statements from a former secretary of DOTC, and a former mayor of Cebu, are very humbling and inspiring that could help us push our vision to become one of the premier cities not just of the Philippines, but also of Southeast Asia.”
