Party-list representative dismisses ‘no election’ talk

ABANG Lingkod party-list Representative Stephen Paduano said Friday the “No Election” scenario should not be discussed yet because the developments would still depend on the Constitutional amendments leading to federalism.

Paduano said that as far as the House of Representatives is concerned, the majority is amenable that Congress will convene into a Constituent Assembly (ConAss) and they will start the ball rolling this month.

“It would still depend if ConAss and federalism would be amenable to the people,” he added.

“The discussion and procedure leading to federalism would take a certain period so we cannot say if it would be finished in May before the barangay elections or before the midterm and local elections in 2019 because certainly there would be a transition,” Paduano said.

He also revealed that ConAss is already a done deal in the Lower House and that they are only waiting for the Senate.

Senate President Aquilino Pimentel III and House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez have agreed on convening congress into ConAss, Paduano noted.
