FORMER village councilwoman Vilma Matic took her oath on Tuesday, January 16, as the new village chief of Barangay San Agustin, San Simon town.
Matic succeeded the late one-termer Chairman Melanio Romero who died of heart attack on January 8.
Being the council member with most number of votes last election, Matic was the most eligible candidate to assume the village’s top position as cited in the Local Government Code of the Philippines.
During her official swearing in, Matic said she will continue to provide development in Barangay San Agustin which covers the longest MacArthur Highway portion in town.
“I am deeply honored in assuming the highest post of Barangay San Agustin and I vow to further initiate development and create more opportunities for my fellow kabalens,” she said.
Meanwhile, Mayor Leonora Wong officially welcomed Matic as the newest member of San Simon’s elected officials as she administered the village chief’s oath.
She expressed optimism in the active participation of Matic in bringing development to San Agustin and the whole of San Simon while catering to the needs of their fellow Simonians.
“While we grieve the lost of our beloved barangay captain Melanio Romero, we also welcome with open arms our new barangay Chairwoman Vilma Matic along with the opportunities and progress that she may bring in our town,” Wong said.
Matic will continue the term of Melanio which is expected to end in the next village election set on May this year.
