EDUCATING the grassroots level on the programs of the administration is among the priorities of Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella as he now sits as president of the Partido Demokratikong Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) Cebu City Chapter.
Labella took oath before House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez, who also sits as PDP-Laban secretary general, late afternoon yesterday.
The ceremony was also attended by opposition Councilors Philip Zafra, Jose Daluz III, Joel Garganera, Renato Osmeña Jr. and Raymond Garcia.
Also present were Presidential Assistant for the Visayas Michael Dino, Apas Barangay Capt. Ramil Ayuman, former councilor James Anthony Cuenco and former Calape Bohol mayor Ernest Herrera.
In a phone interview with SunStar Cebu after the ceremony, Labella said the rest of the set of officers for the Cebu City Chapter will be chosen among the members themselves.
He said they will have to submit the list of officers to the Office of the Secretariat.
With his new position in the party, Labella said he wants to focus on bringing the advocacy and platforms of President Rodrigo Duterte’s administration down the grassroots level.
“We have to educate them on the change of form of government from unitary to federal. We also have to support and educate our barangays on the relentless fight against illegal drugs. Lastly, we have to underscore programs to fight deeply-rooted culture of corruption,” he said.
But does the new development affect how the opposition councilors in the City Council should be addressed?
A lawyer and former ombudsman, Labella said Barug Team Rama is an “association,” while PDP-Laban is a “coalition” of political parties.
“Barug Team Rama is still there because it’s an association. In so far as we’re concerned, our political party is PDP-Laban. We belong to a coalition of political parties and associations. Pero kami karon, we are identified as members of PDP-Laban as a political party,” he said. (RTF)
