PAMPANGA third district Representative Aurelio Gonzales Jr. is now the chairman of President Duterte's party, Partido Demokratiko Pilipino (PDP)-Laban, in Central Luzon.
His appointment to the post was signed by Senate President Aquilino Pimentel III, national president; Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez, national secretary general; and Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi, vice chairman.
His appointment took effect on January 15.
As regional chairman, Gonzales, who is the deputy majority floor leader of the House of Representatives, is tasked to lead and direct the party and its members to make the culture shift toward party-based politics, among others.
PDP-Laban is pushing for a revamp of the Constitution and for federalism to replace the presidential form of government in the Philippines.
Gonzales is also supposed to start preparations for the 2019 elections. (NCS)
