Heavy traffic today: CCTO

THE Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) warned the public to brace for heavier than usual traffic on some major roads today because of the solemn procession of the image of Sto. Niño.

CCTO Operations Chief Francisco Ouano said some roads will closed as early as 10 a.m. in preparation for the procession, which will start at 1 p.m.

Ouano said they will start clearing obstructions and towing vehicles along the route as early as 6 a.m.

The procession will start at Basilica del Sto. Niño, head to the Fuente rotunda, turn right to Gen. Maxilom Ave., right to Imus New Road, left to M.J. Cuenco Ave., proceed to F. Urdaneta St., to P. Burgos St., to Osmeña Blvd., and back to the basilica.

Ouano asked those who will not join the procession to avoid the route.


“If they really need to go near the procession route, we ask them to have more patience because we are expecting a heavy traffic tomorrow (today),” he said.

Ouano said the downtown area will be off-limits to public utility jeepneys (PUJ) and other vehicles.

PUJs from Barangay Guadalupe, including from Banawa, will have to access V. Rama Ave., or B. Rodriguez St., and will proceed to Katipunan St., A. Lopez St., to Tres de Abril St., to N. Bacalso Ave.--except 06A and 06G, which will only be allowed to access V. Rama Ave.--to their usual route.

PUJs from Lahug, Apas and Plaza Housing passing Gorordo Ave., will have to make a U-turn at C. Rosales Ave., then back to their points of origin.

PUJs from Bulacao, Pardo, Alumnos, Inayawan and Basak passing C. Padilla St., will turn right to Carlock St., turn left to Tupas St., left to T. Abella St., right to C. Padilla St., right to Lakandula St., right to Tupas St., right to T. Abella St., left to C. Padilla St., then back to their points of origin.

Ouano said they will deploy enforcers along major intersections to guide and ask drivers to follow traffic signs.
