Village watchmen in Bacolod to receive P2,000 allowance

THE Bacolod City Council approved an ordinance providing a P2,000 monthly allowance to village watchmen or tanods who perform auxiliary duties in their respective police stations or with the Public Order and Safety Office (Poso).

The ordinance, authored by Councilor Caesar Distrito, was approved during the regular session Wednesday.

Distrito said the main purpose of the ordinance is for the tanods who will serve as force multipliers and assist the policemen and the City Government in maintaining peace and order.

The ordinance stated that aside from performing auxiliary duties, there are qualifications and requirements needed in order for barangay tanods to avail the incentive.

Distrito said the tanods should be working as a tanod for at least two years, have undergone self-defense training and basic law enforcement seminar as conducted by the Bacolod City Police Office and the Poso, must be between the ages of 18 and 60, should be physically fit, and must perform auxiliary duties with the Police Station or the Poso for at least 72 hours.

He said the auxiliary duties covers assisting the police in conducting patrolling or roving operations, assisting in the traffic management and enforcement and assigned as guard on duty in public schools, police stations or in areas with high incidence of crimes in their barangay.

He added that the City Government allotted P2 million for the implementation of the ordinance.
