THE Ludo30 Golf for Marawi—A Charity Golf Tournament raised nearly P7 million that will be given to the families of the fallen soldiers in Marawi.
The two-day team competition, backed by Ludo, Total Power, Eduardo “Danding” Cojuangco Jr. and E Power, attracted around 340 golfers at the Cebu Country Club in Banilad, Cebu City last Friday and yesterday.
Organizer Douglas Luym said that the event was conceptualized to help the uniformed men who lost their lives in the Marawi siege from late May to November last year.
“I was thinking about anything that we can do to help. The soldiers gave there life and we don’t give nothing. We came up with this event so we can give some assistance to the family of the fallen soldiers,” said Luym in an interview with SunStar Cebu yesterday.
Luym said that the beneficiaries would be the family of the 165 fallen soldiers and policemen. The total amount will be divided among them.
With the overwhelming support from the players and sponsors, the organizers have reached nearly P7 million, exceeding the original target of around P3 to P4 million.
“We get over pretty close to P7 million. Very thankful with the sponsors and all the players who came here to play. I limited it only to 250 players but we got 340 players,” said Luym.
The organizers will turnover the amount to the Department of National Defense (DND) chief Delfin Lorenzana and the Presidential Assistant for the Visayas Michael Dino. Lorenzana also played in the event.
When asked if this event would be held annually, Luym said, “That will be hard to say but anytime that we have a chance that we can help a community, we will do it.”
Meanwhile, the golf tournament will shell out awards for the overall gross, overall net, Top 3 in the CCC All Members division and Top 3 in the Member/Guest division.
The results and list of winners were unavailable at presstime. (RSC)
