ILIGAN CITY -- Police authorities arrested Saturday, a 40-year-old father for allegedly raping his 16-year-old daughter at their house in Barangay Jas, Malabang, Lanao del Sur.
Angel (not her real name) is mute and an out-of-school youth.
In an initial police investigation, the victim said she was inside their house when the suspect suddenly approached her from behind, covered her mouth and forcefully dragged her inside their sleeping room and raped her.
Angel immediately reported the incident to the police that resulted to the arrest of the suspect.
Police Senior Superintendent John Guygoyon, chief of Police Provincial Office in Lanao del Sur, said the victim revealed she was raped several times but cannot remember the exact dates anymore.
“She’s deaf mute. Her father, the suspect used to be an illegal drug user,” Guygoyon said in a phone interview.
She has other five siblings, three girls ages 15, 11, 10 and two boys ages 13 and 7.
The victim’s mother was out working when the incident last Saturday happened according to Guygoyon.
Police Chief Superintendent Graciano Mijares, Regional Director of the Police Regional Office in Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, said they are handling the investigation with sensitivity and assured that the PNP is in control of the whole situation.
“We assure that we will give the victim prompt justice,” Mijares said.
