THE Committee on Public Utilities, Transportation and Traffic Legislation (PUTTL) headed by Councilor Benny Bomogao together with Councilor Michael Lawana and Councilor Faustino Olowan is pushing for the passage of a measure granting exemptions to all victims of calamities from the requirements of electrical and water connections in the City of Baguio.
The committee in their proposal stated that the city is frequently ravaged by calamities every year and even though resiliency is the utmost thrust of the government to attain zero casualties’ record, these untoward incidents are inescapable.
Due to its sudden occurrences, calamities result to massive destructions to lives and properties of residents.
With this, victims mostly suffer and incur difficulties especially in restoring their damaged properties such as their daily electric and water consumptions. The committee specified the case of the ten (10) families at Cresencia Village whose houses where burned sometime last month.
But despite of their loss, they are finding remedies to recover and return to their normal lives. With this in mind, the policymakers said that the city has the civic duty to provide alternative solutions to these kinds of sufferings.
The private sector, other agencies including government owned and controlled corporations likewise can provide their counterparts that would help fast track the needs of these individuals.
The committee therefore explained that to attain and uplift the lives of the affected residents, the grant of exemptions from requirements for their applications for electrical and water connections would be a big relief on their part.
