Marijuana worth P15M uprooted in Kalinga

SOME P15 million worth of marijuana plants in Kalinga province were uprooted by operatives of the Police Regional Office Cordillera while arresting two drug pushers in Benguet.

In a four day marijuana eradication campaign in Barangay Loccong, Tinglayan, Kalinga, combined operatives of Kalinga Police Provincial Office, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency - Cordillera and members of the 503rd Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army uprooted 72 pieces of marijuana plants, 28,000 fully grown marijuana plants and 112,000 marijuana seedlings planted in a 1,100 square meters of land, aside from the discovery of 40 Kilograms of marijuana stalks, and two kilograms of marijuana hashish.

The marijuana plants, stalks and hashish had a total amount of P15,580,000 based on the Dangerous Drug Board value.

In Mankayan, Benguet, two drug pushers were arrested in a buy-bust operation at slaughter compound, in Barangay Tabio early morning of February 13.

The suspects were identified as Ianne Roy Alintog Yalong, 24, a resident of Labaan, Tabio and Jomel Jimenez Padiclas, 23, a resident of Guinaoang, Mankayan.

During the operation, five pieces of plastic sachets with a residue of suspected shabu, eight pieces of heat-sealed sachets containing suspected shabu and other drug paraphernalia were seized from their possession.

Yalong and Padiclas together with the seized items are now under the custody of Mankayan Municipal Police Station for proper documentation, while appropriate case was filed against them in court.

With the latest drug haul, Police Regional Office - Cordillera regional director Edward Carranza said the police alone cannot accomplish the gargantuan task of effectively curbing the drug menace, but with the citizen’s support, the community and police become strong allies in the battle against illegal drugs.
