MEMBERS of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Police Community Relations Group (PCRG) reached out to the public on Wednesday, February 14 by distributing flowers and serenading them in celebration of Valentine’s Day.
PCRG deputy director Senior Superintendent Bartolome Bustamante, who led the activity dubbed “Katok ng Pagbabago Mula sa Puso” held at the Metro Rail Transit 3 Cubao station, said they hoped to show their soft side to the public.
“Itong activity natin this morning ay isa sa mga programa natin na innovation ng ating Philippine National Police para mas malawak at marami ang ating ma-reach out nating kababayan sa special na araw na ‘to na araw ng mga puso,” he said.
“So ito po ay sa mga pamamaraan para mapalapit ang ating kapulisan sa ating mamayan na yung soft side ng Philippine National Police ay makita nila,” he added.
After receiving flowers, the MRT riders thanked the PNP officers with a smile.
“Masaya ‘yung ganyang ginagawa nila. Nakakatuwa. Lalong mapapalapit ang mga pulis sa mga tao gaya namin,” MRT rider Josabelle Dungca, 33 said.
Along with the flowers, the PNP also reminded the public to ensure their safety and security while celebrating the Valentine’s day.
The PNP noted the various modus operandi such as the Credit Card Scam (Baraha Gang), Bukas Kotse Modus, Ipit-Taxi Modus, Laslas Bag/Pocket Gang, Pitas Tactics, and Salisi Modus which are being done by two or more people.
PNP spokesperson Chief Superintendent John Bulalacao said these are usually done by getting the victims’ attention first.
The PNP also urged those who will be going out to avoid posting their plans and ongoing events on their social media accounts as these may indicate that their homes as vacant, which could lead to an "Akyat-Bahay" operation. (SunStar Philippines)
