POLICE operatives have arrested an alleged member of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) involved in the kidnapping and killing of plantation workers 16 years ago in Basilan province, an official said Wednesday.
Chief Superintendent Billy Beltran, Police Regional Office (PRO)-Zamboanga Peninsula director, identified the arrested suspect as Rocco Haman, 38, who carries the aliases of Ruco Haman Isdad, and Hamador Hadjula.
Beltran said the suspect was arrested at 4:20 p.m. Tuesday near a restaurant along La Purisima Street in Zone III village, Zamboanga City.
Beltran said Haman has standing warrant of arrest for eight-count kidnapping and serious illegal detention issued by a court in Isabela City, Basilan province.
He said Haman was allegedly involved in the kidnapping of workers from the Golden Harvest Plantation on June 11, 2001 in the village of Tairan, Lantawan, Basilan.
He lauded the Police Station 4 personnel under the leadership of Chief Inspector Hazel Fernandez for a job well-done.
The arrested suspect was so far the 10th ASG member involved in the plantation workers’ kidnapping the authorities have apprehended since January 1 this year in this city. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
