Dela Rosa willing to serve Duterte 'until his last breath'

PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) chief Ronald dela Rosa said Wednesday, February 21, that he would always choose President Rodrigo Dutrete over his family.

Dela Rosa was reacting to the President's intention to further extend his service.

The PNP chief said he is willing to serve Duterte "until his last breath."

Dela Rosa was due to retire in January, when he reached the mandatory retirement age of 56 for uniformed personnel.

Duterte, however, asked to extend his service for three months, or until April 21.

Dela Rosa admitted that his family, especially his daughters, were a bit disappointed by his term extension.

‘Yun lang gusto kong gawin, magrelax with my family dahil after a while hindi ko na yan makontrol, magsipag asawa na yan,” he said.

“A little bit disappointed ang mga bata but they are proud that their dad still enjoys the trust and confidence of the President so happy pa rin sila. Sanay na ‘yung pamilya ko na 2nd priority sila palagi, first priority yung serbisyo,” he added.

On Tuesday, Dela Rosa was again ordered by Duterte to extend his service with no definite period.

Whether it is about his career as a police officer or possibly in politics, Dela Rosa said he will always follow Duterte’s order.

On his possible political career after his suppose desire to run for the 2019 senatorial race has surfaced, Dela Rosa said his decision still depends on what Duterte wishes.

However, Dela Rosa admitted that his family, especially his wife, does not favor plans to enter politics.

Gusto nila ng private life. Gusto ko rin sana manahimik,” he said.

But, asked what if Duterte told him to run for senator, Dela Rosa said: “Susundin ko pa rin si Presidente,”

Dela Rosa, however, expressed confidence that his wife Nancy understands his loyalty and his will to follow Duterte.

“Well 2nd Lieutenant pa lang ako I have been working with the President since he was vice mayor hanggang naging mayor kaya si misis naman, ninong namin sa kasal si Presidente. Eversince katagal na naming nagtatrabaho,” he said. (SunStar Philippines)
