PUBLICLY-LISTED SFA Semicon Philippines Corp. (SSPC), a global outsourced semiconductor assembly and test company, disclosed that it has started commercial production of the latest version of eMMC chips in its recently completed Phase 2 manufacturing building in Clark Freeport in Pampanga.
SSPC’s new Phase 2 manufacturing plant, which was inaugurated yesterday, had a soft opening in early February after the company passed the trial and certification runs of the flash-based memory devices and later got its customer’s approval for commercial production.
The eMMC, or embedded multimedia card, is an advanced, high-performance NAND flash memory designed for mobile applications, including tablets, smartphones, GPS systems, eReaders and other computing devices. SSPC invested about $4.3 million in production equipment for the eMMC project.
SSPC invested about $51 million for the SSP-2 project.
Construction started in the first quarter last year and now boasts of a gross manufacturing footprint of 28,000 square meters for stage 1 of the expansion. (PR)
