GUAGUA -- Various women's groups here joined on Thursday, March 8, the town-wide march in celebration of the Women's Month and protest against any form of Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC).
Women's groups, like the Solo Parents Federation of Guagua and the Soroptimist International of Guagua, joined other women sector groups in marching all across town Thursday morning in celebration of Women's Month.
The groups also attended a forum on Republic Act 9262 (Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004).
Tess Guanzon of Soroptimist International of Guagua said that their group is against all forms of violence against women, adding they aim to rather empower women and advance the cause of women from all sectors.
This 2018, the National Women's Month Celebration revolves around the theme "We Make Change Work for Women," while Guagua town has adopted the theme "Press for Progress."
Proclamation 227 series of 1988 provides for the observance of the month of March as Women's Role in History month, while Republic Act 6949 series of 1990 declares March 8 of every year as National Women's Day.
Also, Proclamation 224 series of 1998 declares the first week of March as Women's Week and March 8 as Women's Rights and International Peace Day.
Women's Month has been celebrated throughout the month of March since 1988.
