INSPIRED by her passion for education and her love for children, Lygia Cabatingan Ibañez opened St. Benedict’s Preschool in 1967 at her family residence on Adelfa St., Cebu City, with 18 students and two teachers.
Over the years, the school went through many changes, in location, in name, in population and sadly, the untimely passing of the school’s beloved foundress in 2011. Throughout these transitions however, the institution remained a leader in the Cebuano educational community.
On its 50th year, the school continues its mission-vision of providing transformative and quality Christian education by molding and inspiring future leaders who embody the Benedictine ideals of “Ora et Labora” and the Gospel values of truth, justice, love, respect and peace. Under the leadership of the Board of Trustees, through the collaborative efforts of all its stakeholders, and with God’s blessing, St. Benedict Childhood Education Centre (SBCEC) at its new campus on F. Cabahug St., will surely soar to new heights and produce well-rounded graduates who will make a difference in the nation and in the world.
In line with SBCEC’s anniversary, a concert will be held on March 10, Saturday at SM City Cebu dubbed “Gold! SBCEC in Concert: A nostalgic journey through movies and musicals.” (PR)
