PRESIDENTIAL Spokesperson Harry Roque Jr. on Saturday, March 10, called on former Iloilo City mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog to face the graft charges against him.
During the press briefing in Alimodian town on Saturday, March 10, Roque stressed that if the former mayor wanted to clear his name on the drug list, he should return to the country.
“Kung gusto niyang linisin ang pangalan niya, umuwi siya dito at harapin ang mga bintang laban sa kanya pero habang siya nagtatago continuing evidence of guilt,” Roque said.
(If he wants to clear his name, he should come home and face the charges against him. Continuing to hide is an evidence of guilt.)
Roque said Mabilog is still on the list of government officials who have alleged links to illegal drugs.
The drug list was provided by the different law enforcement agencies.
Roque said President Rodrigo Duterte does not harbor hatred towards Mabilog.
“Wala, wala naman silang personal na relasyon bakit sila magkakaroon ng personal hatred?” he said.
(They do not have a personal relationship so why would there be personal hatred?)
Roque clarified the President’s remarks about “killing” Mabilog as simply his way of emphasizing the need to punish erring officials.
“Sinabi po ni presidente yun pero ang ibig sabihin din po ng presidente, pag sinabing papatay ay minsan, it’s just emphasize the point na hindi po pwede na hindi maparusahan ang mga nagkakasala,” Roque clarified.
(What the President meant was to emphasize the point that those who committed offenses would have to be punished.) (Carolyn Jane Abello/SunStar Philippines)
