Iloilo guv releases P31M for school repair, sports

ILOILO -- The Provincial Government has released P31-million to help the Department of Education (DepEd) in the repair and construction of new school buildings in select public elementary and secondary schools here.

Taken from the provincial school board fund, Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. released the cheque to concerned principals and teacher-in-charge in a ceremony held at Casa Real de Iloilo on March 9, 2018.

A total of P3.6 million will be used to repair the classroom buildings of the following schools: Bancal Elementary School in Carles, Apurillo Memorial Elementary School in Anilao, Camambugan Elementary School in Dingle, Layog Elementary School in Maasin, Malitbog National High School in Calinog, Pandan Elementary School and Walang Elementary School in Lambunao, Inta Primary School in Badiangan, Pavia National High School in Pavia, Don B. Jalandoni Sr. Memorial Elementary School in Zarraga and Barroc Elementary School in Tigbuan.

New two-classroom building will also be built using P1-million fund from the Provincial Government for San Antonio Elementary School in San Miguel and Malag-it Primary School in Calinog.

A total of 13 public schools will also benefit from aid for the construction of school facilities like stage, toilets, multipurpose halls and improvement of school grounds (P4.1 million).

Bulk of the aid (P22 million) went to DepEd Division of Iloilo for the successful conduct of 2018 Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association Meet.

Pavia Municipal Administrator Ramy Madero thanked Defensor for his support to repair the learning center of Pavia National High School stressing that the repair of facility (P400,000) is important in maintaining the child-friendliness of the school.

Malitbog National High School Principal Romeo Gonzales also expressed his gratitude to the P500,000 aid they received noting that they have been waiting for the fund to be released so they could immediately start the repair of the school this summer. (Jezza A. Nepomoceno)
