Mandaue’s barangays get ready for May polls, while Congress mulls over postponement (again)

WHILE waiting for Congress to decide, barangays in Mandaue City are preparing their lineup of candidates for the May 2018 barangay elections.

Association of Barangay Councils President Ernie Manatad said he prefers that the barangay elections will push through because it has been suspended twice.

The House of Representatives committee on suffrage and electoral reforms voted to postpone again the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections from May 14 to Oct. 8, 2018.

“Most of the barangays (in Mandaue) really want that the elections will proceed,” said Manatad.

Some persons who intend to run for office have started visiting houses to introduce themselves to the voters, he observed.

Barangay elections last took place in October 2013. (FMG)
