Dabawenya is Miss Supranational-Philippines

JEHZA Huelar, a Dabawenya beauty queen, was crowned as Miss Supranational 2018 during the Binibining Pilipinas 2018 grand coronation night held at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City on Sunday evening after her third attempt.

Huelar, bearing the Binibini #31, slayed the stage with grace and elegance while wearing her gold embellished gown designed by a Davao-based fashion designer, Xioti Chiu. She shone among other candidates when she was called to be part of the Top 25 then made it to Top 15 where all the candidates were asked different questions.

During the question and answer round, she was asked by United States (US) Ambassador to the Philippines Sung Kim, “What do you think is the most important quality of a millennial woman?”

"I think the most important quality a millennial woman have is to have ambition. With her vision she should have this attitude and perseverance so that she can achieve her goals and through that vision, she would be able to express herself freely. So I would hope all the millennial out here will really adhere to our culture and our traditions so that we can inspire others, we can impact people," Huelar answered.

The twenty-two-year-old, newly-crowned queen was born and raised in Mandug, Davao City. She is an alumna of Ateneo de Davao University where she finished Bachelor of Science in Finance.

Meanwhile, the Miss Supranational organization warmly welcomed Huelar through their official Facebook page as she is set to represent the country in the international arena this year.

"Recently elected Miss Supranational Philippines 2018 stunning Jehza Huelar @jehzahuelar being crowned by Chanel Olive Thomas, Miss Supranational Philippines 2017. Congratulations Jehza and welcome!" the post read.

Miss Supranational is an annual international beauty pageant organized by the World Beauty Association wherein every year contestants from almost 40 countries participate in the contest which seeks to highlight grace and natural beauty. The first Filipina who won the international title was Mutya Datul way back 2013.

For the Team SpectaHuelars, an organized group who is supporting Huelar, they were in glee with the latest achievement of the queen, which they considered as an answered prayer of all her supporters across the country especially the Dabawenyos who cheered for her both in Araneta and in their homes.

“Until now we are still emotional lalo na po sa over pouring support, shares at comments ng mga spectators at fans nya. Hindi po nagkamali si Jehza na this time around full Davao talents po ang nagbigay ng support sa kanya like sa evening gown nya made by Xioti Chiu her national costume made by Neil Jimlani,” Astrid Cuezon, SpectacHuelars Davao representative, said.

The SpectacHuelars, which she said have now almost 3,000 members all over the country, were confident that Huelar will make it through the international competition and will bring pride and honor to the Philippines.

“She has been to the most emotional and hardest part in her life at her young age that is why her maturity and ways to survive shows up on her answer, we could feel that it comes from her heart. Our teammates are reminiscing now how humble and the noble acts of Jehza on our group chats,” she said.

Other winners of this year’s Bininibing Pilipinas are: Catriona Gray (Bb. Pilipinas Universe 2018), Ma. Ahtiza Manalo (Bb. Pilipinas International 2018), Michele Gumabao (Bb. Pilipinas Globe 2018), Karen Galman (Bb. Pilipinas Intercontinental 2018), Eva Patalinjug (Bb.
