3rd fire hits Lapu-Lapu City in 4 days

JUST three days after the two fire incidents in Lapu-Lapu City, another fire broke out in Barangay Basak this afternoon.

The Lapu-Lapu Fire District received the alarm at 2:55 p.m. Tuesday, March 20.

The affected houses were located behind a supermarket in Pueblo Verde.

The Lapu-Lapu City Fire Department (LCFD) declared Task Force Alpha at 3:10 p.m.

The incident was then raised to a general alarm at 3:14 p.m. Firefighters from the neighboring towns and cities had responded to the area to help.

The fire was put under control at 4:12 p.m.

In a separate interview, Basak Barangay Captain Isabelito Darnayla said the flames were quick to spread throughout the residential area because the structures were made of light materials.

The Basak Barangay Council is set to declare the affected area under a state of calamity so it can use the calamity fund to help affected families.

About 300 houses were destroyed as estimated by Basak Barangay Captain Isabelito Darnayla.

The Mactan Electric Company announced on its Facebook page that power interruption is experienced in the some areas of Lapu-Lapu after their 69kv sub-transmission lines and poles in Basak were burnt in the ongoing fire in Sitio Iba.

“We regret to inform our valued customers that there is no definite time of power restoration yet. But rest assured that our linemen and engineers are closely coordinating with the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) to restore the power as soon as possible. We apologize for the inconvenience and we are hoping for your kind understanding on this matter,” a part of Meco’s announcement read

Last Friday, more than 300 houses were destroyed by flames in Sitios Paradise, Kitchen, and Camansi in Barangay Pajo.

Just a few minutes after it was declared fire out, another fire hit Sitio Humay-humay, Barangay Gun-ob, where three houses were burnt.

“This morning, our barangay turned over 23 sacks of rice to Pajo Barangay Captain Junard Chan as financial assistance. Now, our barangay is in need of assistance,” Darnayla said in Cebuano.(FMG/SunStar Cebu)
