SOME 70 companies all over Mindanao are set to meet on Thursday, March 22, with Taiwanese companies during the Davao Leg of the 2018 Taiwan Trade and Investment meeting at the Marco Polo Hotel Davao.
Rolando A. Torres, executive director of the Mindanao Business Council (MinBC), said most of the companies who will be joining the one-on-one business matching with the Taiwanese companies are coming from Davao Region but there are also those coming from the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), General Santos City, Cotabato City, and even as far sa Basilan.
Torres, who was a guest at a press forum at Habi at Kape, Abreeza Mall, said the participating Mindanawon companies are set to meet with 25 Taiwanese companies that are mostly into electronics and automotive. There are also those that are into agriculture, health and wellness, fertilizers, and infant products.
For the participating companies from Mindanao, he said they are also into the same industries that their Taiwanese counterparts are in.
Torres said they have scheduled around 200 one-on-one meetings between the Mindanawon and Taiwanese companies.
"Their (Taiwanese) expansion to Mindanao shows that they have confidence in the economy here," he said.
Torres also said other Taiwanese companies are also looking into the possibility of investing in Mindanao.
However, Janine Tan of the Taiwan Trade Center in Manila said for this year, they are only looking into staging one trade and investment meeting but they do hope to stage another one in the future.
The one-on-one business matching event is being spearheaded by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (Taitra) in partnership with MinBC.
In an earlier interview, Torres said this will be the first time the Taitra will be holding this kind of business and investments event in Davao City.
"As a matter of fact, the first time outside Metro Manila. They are looking for distributors of their products in Mindanao. Also they are going to explore what they can bring with them back to Taiwan as well," he said.
