Lit MQ

I’VE met so many people who hate eating fish. My family likes to have fish dishes at least three times a week, so I really wondered what it is in fish that makes people hate it.

According to my neighbor Nardy, she has no quarrel with fish dishes. “It’s my grandsons who avoid fish dishes as much as they can.”

I asked her why and she said it has to do with the texture of fish. “The kids call it cottony,” she said.

Another neighbor said his son never eats fish. “He finds fish dishes boring. Most of the time fish is fried or grilled or added to soups,” Janboy said.

Boring, cottony, so what else is fish compared to? “Fish is not fun to eat,” said Pollonggoy, the son of my cousin Dona.

“But you eat fish,” I told him.

“True, but many of my friends think of fish that way. But for me, it’s lit,” he said.

“FYI, according to my millennial source, you can use the millennialism ‘lit’ to describe a party or even a place.”

“I was just testing your MQ, Uncle,” Pollonggoy said. “It means awesome. The word is derived from ‘on fire’ or cool or bright and exciting. By the way, who’s your millennial source?”

“Pannon. Who else?” I replied.

“But he’s just a boy,” Pollonggoy protested.

“I might be just a boy but I read a lot. I know MQ. It’s Millennial Quotient,” Pannon replied.

“How do you apply lit on food, Uncle?” Pollonggoy asked.

“He can’t because fish is really lit already. You know, grill it over hot coals or boil it under medium fire. It would be double lit if you call cooked fish lit. You don’t call pizza a ‘pizza pie’ because pizza already means pie,” my wise Uncle Gustave said.

My aunt Tita Blitte joined us. “What’s this noise about lit?”

“Oh, we’re just on fire about a new slang that millennials have created, fam,” I told my favorite aunt.

“Count me out then, bruh. My MQ is just average, fam,“ she said and laughed as she went back to the kitchen to grill fresh white marlin for lunch.
