Marvil: Opposition to Burnham fair escalates

AFTER several market vendors including the Maharlika Building and Cunanan Building tenants exhibited their opposition to the planned conduct of a livelihood and productivity fair at the sidewalk of Lake Drive at Burnham Park to be spearheaded by the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), another group has likewise written the Office of the City Mayor and also expressed opposition to the said event.

The opposition letter which was transmitted to the City Council yesterday was signed by the Baguio Burnham Park Vendors Association thru Ms. Editha Tinoyan, the group’s secretary. Just like in the earlier opposition letters, the group specified their strong and consistent objection and opposition to any trade fair at Burnham Park this summer. They said that the recently concluded Panagbenga Market Encounter (Baguio Blooms) has grossly and drastically affected their sales and that this time of the year is their only opportunity to offset the lean season.

It will be recalled that the City Council in their March 21, 2018 special session has approved the request of the CSWADO for the said event citing the importance of the project which is intended to raise funds for the agency’s various drug rehabilitation programs and other important projects that immediately require funding which unfortunately were not included in their annual budget for the year 2018.
