Cebu City library soon to offer free Wi-fi

VISITORS to the Cebu City Public Library and Information Center may soon avail themselves of free Wi-Fi connection.

The Cebu City Council has authorized Mayor Tomas Osmeña to enter into and sign a letter of agreement with Smart Communication Inc. for the implementation of a free Wi-Fi access at the facility.

The resolution was filed by Councilor Sisinio Andales and was approved during the council’s regular session last March 20.

In the draft letter, Smart has pledged to provide up to 30 minutes of free Wi-Fi access daily to all library patrons.

They will also deliver an internet bandwidth of 200 megabits per second at no cost to the City.

Aside from this, the service provider will provide a co-branded landing page and service set identifier (SSID) that will read as #Smart WiFi@24x7CCPL.

The City Government, for its part, will allow authorized Smart agents to repair, maintain and upgrade works to the observance of security and safety rules and regulations of the facility.

The City will also allow Smart to use its product image on the co-branded SSID.

“This letter agreement is binding for a period of 10 years commencing on the date of execution and may be terminated due to material or substantial breach of the other party’s obligations without prejudice to the right to remedy the breach within 60 days from notice or by mutual agreement go terminate,” reads a portion of the draft agreement.
