Mendoza: SMB looks unstoppable—seemingly

WITH another rout of a victory for San Miguel Beer on Sunday, have our doubters dwindled to a shrinking few?

I mean, is there a Thomas among you left unconvinced of the Beermen’s impending historic conquest of the PBA Philippine Cup?

The signs are now simply too obvious: SMB has duplicated its Game 2 massacre of Magnolia with another Game 3 blitzkrieg.

What other proof would you crave for to believe that SMB is on its way to an unstoppable march up to the summit of the All-Filipino?

San Miguel’s back-to-back thrashing of Magnolia might just be like the two nail-inflicted holes in Jesus Christ’s hands that, upon seeing them, Thomas finally believed in the Lord’s resurrection.

Parenthetically, therefore, are SMB’s 92-77 win in Game 2 followed by its 111-87 triumph in Game 3 not enough testament to the Beer makers’ menacing mien to mangle Magnolia up to the ends of the earth?

Now, you might say, err, ask: How come the Beermen lost Game 1 despite also posting a 20-point lead the way they did successively in the next two games?

Well, in that ghastly Game 1 upset, SMB succumbed to a terrible case of defensive collapse.

While they seemed to have found the cure, the endgame breaks though went Magnolia’s way and the Hotshots stole a 105-103 squeaker—the same way that Jesus had snatched the repenting thief from the gates of hell just as Calvary was about to end.

There was no more blasphemy of sorts for SMB after Game 1 as seen in the Beermen’s electric resurrection in the last two games.

So take this: If San Miguel would fail finishing off the job in the next two games on Wednesday and Friday, something so awfully wrong might have been the culprit.

Like seeing some succumbing to the lure of money, as in replicating Judas’ role of betrayal.

Sssh! You know who they are.

GOLF. While the Masters Week April 6-9 (PHL time) will celebrate the return of Tiger Woods—surprise! surprise! that he is a favorite once more—the nation also welcomes with bated breadth the inauguration on April 7 of Bravo Golf, the first 18-hole golf course in Negros Oriental’s Dumaguete City. Bravo to Bert Bravo, who spent 12 years transforming the former 9-holer into a full course. Cheers!
