PHILIPPINE Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) officially declared April 10 as the start of summer.

Pagasa Mactan Senior Weather Specialist engineer AL Quiblat said Tuesday, April 10, is the official termination of northeast moonsoon in the Philippines and the start of the dry hot season.

He added that this month, the average temperature will reach 25 to 32 degrees Celcius.

The warmest month in the country will be on May with a temperature reaching up to 33 degrees Celcius.

Quiblat added that the heat index in the country will reach 40 degrees Celcius or higher.

With this, the weather specialist warned the public to refrain from staying long hours under the heat of the sun from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. to avoid heat stroke.

He said it is best to keep hydrated and bring umbrellas and hats when going outside.

Quiblat also advised those who work mostly on the road, like traffic enforcers and construction workers, to wear light-colored and comfortable clothes and bring with them water to avoid dehydration.

However, he reiterated that amidst the start of dry hot season, the country will still experience light to moderate isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms. (SunStar Philippines)
