10th Boulder Face Challenge, April 21

IT'S all systems go for the staging of the Visit Davao Summer Fest (VDSF)'s 10th Boulder Face Challenge that will kick off on April 21 in Sta Cruz, Davao del Sur.

The extreme five-kilometer tubing, 36.6k mountain bike, 53.5k trail run and 12K road run.

Sta. Cruz Municipal Tourism Officer Julius Paner, in an interview with SunStar Davao during the VDSF media launch last Tuesday, said the Boulder Face challenge is the longest-running adventure sport in the Davao Region that underscores the preservation of Mt. Apo which is the pride of the region.

"The challenge has been attracting tourists and extreme adventurers who want to experience and see what Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur, which is literally an island to highland destination and the gateway of Mt. Apo, has to offer," Paner said, adding that they forged a partnership with the private sector including San Miguel Corporation, Aboitiz, Sea Oil and Recreational Outdoor eXchange.

Race director Engineer Albert Gabriel, in a separate interview, said the registration is already closed and a total of 35 participants will vie for honors in the individual pro category while 15 teams are entered in the relay event.

"This year we added the 12K road run in the race and we mixed the male and female in the individual pro event," he said.

Huge prizes are at stake with the top three individual pro winners to receive P75,000, P55,000 and P35,000, respectively, as the relay champion will take home P40,000 while the runners up will have P30,000 and P20,000.
